The diagram exemplifies how deforestation from beef is involved with large supply/food chains.
South America, home to the recent summer olympics and deforestation from beef production? Beef production has been shown to the largest cause of tropical deforestation. Beef production has led to two times more deforestation than palm oil, wood, and soy--combined. From global corporations of McDonalds, Walmart, Safeway, and more, these supply/food chains have been ruining the environment, and have been unable to change their ways. Some companies have created commitments, but yet to have it implemented. When looking at these corporations, it has been found the two main reasons why they lack is because they do no have a deforestation-free commitment or they only implement it in Brazilian Amazon. To stop this, corporations can share more information to the public about their beef scoring, use systems which track beef beginning from the ranch supplier, and start implementing their commitments. This article raises importance as deforestation has led to the extinction or endangerments of species, both plants and animals. Also, The Brazilian Amazon is home to large amounts of CO2, so it is important to make sure less CO2 is absorbed into the atmosphere or hydrosphere. Lastly, deforestation needs to be stopped in order to preserve the environment for the future.
