During Super Bowl LI, a commercial from the American Petroleum Institute (API) was aired. API is known as the largest oil trade association in the United States, and deniers of climate change. This thirty second commercial featured the use of oil in graffiti art, lipstick makeup, a prosthetic mechanical hand, mechanical heart, cars, and space exploration. The ad stands as controversial as the U.S. Energy Information Administration found the majority of oil and gas, 90%, is used for energy in vehicles or power plants.
The blue on the graph, non-energy use of oil and natural gas, is what the commercial uses to spread its message on the importance of oil. These corporations want to spread the importance of oil, but don't talk about it main use of purpose. Plus in the future, we cannot rely on oil and gas or other harmful fossil fuels. The future is wind, solar, and water--renewable resources. If we want to take a stand and save our environment, then we cannot rely on fossil fuels for energy.
