Environmental Impacts: All energy has environmental impacts, the biggest impact being CO2 emissions. Half of CO2 emissions are from coal, one-third from oil. Other energies are very harmful, sulfur dioxide cause sulfur rain, nitrogen oxide causes dimities the ozone layer. Water as energy is growing, as it cools power plants and solar plants, but the problem is large amount of water are being used. Another environmental impact is land use, in which solar, hydro, and biofuel use large amounts of energy. With energy getting cleaner, it is getting more expensive.
Coal: Coal is cheap because of its large availability and it is easy to mine, transport, store, and convert to electricty. This makes coal major as cheap energy is needed for poorer countries and places that use large amounts of energy. Coal has large environmental and social impacts. Coal is responsible for environmental harm as it released pollutants and half of CO2 emissions.
Natural gas: Natural gas is at a low price because of it high availability. Natural gas is a potent greenhouse gas, but produces less CO2 emissions. Also, natural gas fracking is being done nearby homes, but there is an issue that it might contaminant water for the people.
